First of all, this article is the recipe review.
This recipe is made by Beth of Budget Bytes (online recipe website). This website introduces dishes that can be prepared in short time without any special cooking equipment. Of course it tastes delicious. Also, Beth, who made this recipe, is good at create low budget recipe.
I chose this recipe because it can be made with simple cooking steps such as sauting and stewing, and can be made with ingredients I already know. This dish uses tomato paste in addition to canned tomatoes, so we can really feel the sour taste of the tomatoes.
The main ingredients which used this cooking are penne pasta, canned tomatoes, tomato paste, cheeses, spinach, onion, herbs (oregano and basil), and garlic. All of these could be bought at supermarkets. I basically just put the ingredients in a pot and simmered to make the sauce. When I actually made it, I realized that the tomato cream sauce was completed while the pasta was boiling, which meant that I could eat the chewy pasta imminently after it was boiled. The cooking time was 20 minutes. Also, the tools I used were only basic kitchen tools, such as pots, frying pans, knives, and cutting boards. There was nothing difficult to do.
There are a few positive points of this dish. First, It have three colors, such as yellow (pasta) and red (tomato cream sauce), green (spinach). This make it look delicious and whets the appetite. Second, The finely chopped onions in it accent the texture. Third, this dish has a mellow taste. As mentioned above, it is used a lot of tomatoes. However, since it contains a lot of cheese, it does not have an unpleasant sour taste.
Also there are a few negative points of this dish. First, it have spinaches, whish is just washed. That's why I felt a bitter taste. I think It's better to do parboiling. Second, I have trouble in figuring out how to use ingredients that I don't usually use, like oregano. This herb certainly gave this dish a refreshing aroma, but I only used a small amount so there was a lot left over.
I give this recipe 4 stars, because it is generally satisfying both in terms of time and difficulty. However, I reduce 1 star due to negative points.
This recipe includes ingredient substitutions, recommended garnishes, and additional ingredients to change the flavor. Also, it has many photos and detailed explanations (how much to cook, how long to cook, etc.) of each cooking step and a video showing the entire cooking process. They make this dish easier to understand.
Finally, this recipe allows us to make a satisfying dish with a simple cooking process and a short time.
